Q-Land enters Australia: overview of a seismic survey pilot study in the Cooper Basin (pdf 4782.6kb)

The Cooper Basin is the location of the largest conventional onshore hydrocarbon reserves in Australia and was discovered in the 1960s. 3D surface seismic has been acquired extensively in the area, but as the area moves into the later stages of its life-cycle, the operators are increasingly targeting smaller leads, and thinner and more complex reservoirs. The surface seismic acquired to date struggles to provide the resolution and detail required to understand and manage these reservoirs. In August 2007, WesternGeco designed and acquired a small 3D seismic survey in the Bookabourdie field of the Cooper Basin, South Australia, as a proof of concept study.
