Technology: Infrastructure and Integration
The tools that power the Ω-Suite

The Ω-Suite comprises a comprehensive suite of technologies that span the continuum from survey modeling through to advanced imaging, rock property inversion, and time-lapse (4D) analysis. However the strength of this portfolio can only be fully realized if individual technologies can be brought together to form truly seamless workflows: integrating tools and different data sources within a common infrastructure.

WesternGeco uses several integrated software applications that together create a seamless data environment to support all workflows in the Ω-Suite:

Data Integration
There has always been a need to integrate seismic and well-based measurements, thereby bridging the gap between measurements in time (seismic) and measurements in depth (wells), to better interpret the subsurface. While, historically, calibration of seismic reflections using synthetic seismograms was sufficient for horizon-based interpretations and simple layer-based depth conversion, today, we require a much higher level of integration to rapidly derive accurate static and dynamic models of the reservoir.

Integration of subsurface measurements (for example using Well-Driven Seismic processing) provides tangible benefits in terms of understanding risk and uncertainty, while shared recording and computational environments facilitate the exchange of data, information, and knowledge across the organization.

Workflow Integration
Bringing disciplines and data together in a single canvas also allows development of new workflows. Although well data have traditionally been the key to understanding the fluid flow of a reservoir, through geological modeling simulation, a huge amount of information is contained within the seismic signal. Discipline barriers and a multitude of software platforms have prevented its full utilization, with input from the seismic domain limited to defining coarse reservoir structure (major faults and horizons).
