i2i - Velocity Model Building (Updated October 2009)
Interpretation to Imaging, and back again

i2i is a full suite of interactive applications enabling velocity model building and the execution of depth-imaging workflows in a 3D visualization environment. It answers the need for the efficient integration of interpretation, modeling, and seismic processing tools to facilitate any imaging workflow through seamless access to our Omega2 seismic processing system and also to the Petrel Geophysics package.

i2i bridges the gap between two previously separate worlds: the highly visual and interactive world of interpretation and velocity model building, and the computationally intensive world of migration and tomographic inversion.

i2i facilitates the entire depth imaging process
From velocity-depth model building and tomographic updates through to final imaging, i2i delivers the most accurate depth-imaging solutions currently available in an optimal timeframe. Typical workflows include isotropic and anisotropic depth imaging, migration velocity model building and updating, 4D imaging and anisotropic illumination studies, and borehole to surface seismic calibration.

The i2i toolbox includes an interactive horizon-based residual moveout quality assurance workflow and a volumetric RMO QC. A quality earth-model for depth-imaging first requires a solid foundation consisting of an accurate background velocity field. Only once this is in place can high-frequency detail be added to the model with confidence.

The new i2i RMO QA workflow allows for fast, robust early iterations of tomography model building by ensuring the quality of the initial residual moveout picks through geostatistical analysis. This provides the foundation needed to ensure rapid convergence to the final earth-model during the later stages of tomography.

i2i is the new standard in velocity model building for depth imaging and is in use today throughout our worldwide DP centers.

Why choose i2i?
i2i has been developed based on some fundamental design principles - integration, innovation, flexibility and interaction - and is a key tool for much more than just depth imaging. more...

Recent Updates to i2i Software (October 2009)
i2i interactive software now offers more control and better decision making.

The latest release of i2i software provides even greater control, flexibility, and consistency to the velocity model building process.

Interactive Volumetric RMO QC allows the geophysicist to explore and analyze various RMO attributes represented at multiple, linked levels. This enables any problem areas to be quickly identified, without wasting time looking at areas of the model that already provide a good solution. Examples of data representation range from global histograms to crossplots, as well as 2D maps and surfaces, 3D volumes, and prestack information.

New features in the Interactive Property Editing tool kit provide more flexibility and geological consistency in the manipulation of model properties such as velocity or anisotropy.

Interactive ray-visualization and model-validation tool kits enable problem areas on seismic images to be investigated to help understand the underlying causes and to be adjusted as necessary.

The incorporation of well information is critical throughout the modeling and imaging process:  from calibration against well and VSP information as part of the initial anisotropic model building step, through to mis-tie analysis. The new Multi-Well Analysis tool kit enables well-derived properties to be rapidly integrated into the imaging workflow. The example shown on the right demonstrates a background anisotropy model created by propagating delta profiles derived at multiple well locations across the survey area.

i2i workflows increase confidence in the quality of your velocity model, from everyday depth imaging requirements to the most complex subsurface environments.
