Crew 1645 Operating in Saudi Arabia

Crew 1645 has been operating in Saudi Arabia under the same contract for more than six years. Key personnel have been working together on the crew since its inception, and capitalizing on that experience and maturity, they have achieved outstanding production figures and a first-class safety record.

The crew has been operating amid heavy oilfield infrastructure, Bedouin camps, farms, slightly urban areas, roads, and highways. Their most recent 3D operation consisted of 20 active lines only 200 meters apart, each line extending for more than 20 kilometers. With a total of more than 10,000 channels available, 4,000 active channels were recorded with every shot. A rapid source cycle time was maintained by 20 SM26HD/623B vibrator trucks, working in three fleets. During 2006, the average daily production made Crew 1645 one of the most productive in WesternGeco.

Over the last six years, Crew 1645 has been, in part, a land seismic university, graduating many technical specialists and managers. The smooth 24/7 operation is managed by experienced section heads, senior staff, and key junior staff. The crew, made up of individuals from 19 different countries has achieved 2 million man hours without a lost-time incident (LTI) - and counting.

Crew 1645 also supports some vertical seismic profile (VSP) projects by providing a vibrator truck, vibrator electronics, and an experienced vibrator technician to be on the rig site to respond to client needs. During 2006, four VSP projects were executed, each averaging two to three weeks.

As time passes, experience grows, knowledge is shared, people are trained, safety is increased, and quality is maintained. Crew 1645 makes a great model for a successful land seismic operation, and is a prime example of a WesternGeco crew that possesses experience, skill, and a strong determination to achieve excellence.
