Crew 3303 Operating in Kuwait

WesternGeco has been in Kuwait since the mid 1960s when the first 2D seismic lines were acquired. Today, Kuwait Crew 3303 deploys the world's leading land seismic technology - the Q-Land single-sensor land seismic system. The first Q-Land pilot tests in Kuwait were conducted by Crew 3303 in 2003. The success of those tests has led to the acquisition of more than 2,800 km2 of Q-Land data over the oilfields of Kuwait. Currently, Crew 3303 is equipped with 45,000 seismic recording channels and 18 DX-80 vibrators. In June 2008, WesternGeco signed a contract to acquire and process up to another 2,800 Km2 over all the fields of Kuwait using Q-Land technology.

As a result of the 1990-1991 Gulf War, there is a significant amount of unexploded ordnance (UXO) throughout Kuwait. WesternGeco employs an experienced third party company that specializes in managing difficult projects in post-conflict environments to handle mine and battle area clearance in front of the crew.

Crew 3303 is staffed with personnel who are very experienced in the Kuwait desert environment. The crew is diverse in gender and nationality, with more than a dozen nationalities present, including persons from Kuwait, Lebanon, America, England, Australia, Germany, India, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Pakistan, Bangladesh, The Philippines, Oman, Kazakhstan, Russia, Argentinian, Nigeria,,Mexico and Nepal.

The crew is equipped with Q-Xpress, the integrated seismic data acquisition and processing workflow for near-real-time seismic data analysis. Q-Xpress dramatically reduces turnaround and this workflow was fully utilized in the summer of 2007, when a final migrated volume of 115 km2 was delivered to our client one month from the last shot. Prior to Q-Xpress deployment, turnaround time had been approximately eight months. Together with the high level of processing taking place on the crew, the crew receives the full support of DP personnel working in the WesternGeco data processing center in Kuwait City. This is the only seismic processing center in Kuwait and it has been operating continually since 1996.

Crew 3303 seeks to deliver the highest-quality single-sensor data while maintaining exceptional standards of HSE observance. This has resulted in more than 15 publications at international E&P conferences and in geophysical journals related to our use of Q-Land single-sensor technology, as well as the KOC Chairman's QHSE award presented to the crew in 2005 and 2006.
